In seeking to provide a safe home for the orphans of Peru, we work closely with the Peruvian judicial system. We are recognized by the province of Arequipa and MIMDEZ, which oversees the licensing of all child service programs in Peru , as a preferred placement site for abused and abandoned children. All cases of abandoned and abused children are brought before the judge, who then determines where each child will be placed. Over the years we have turned away over 400 children due to lack of space and funding.

Each child comes to our home with a distinctive past, often marked by experiences of abuse, neglect, and abandonment. Several of the children here have been witnesses of domestic violence, at times resulting in the death of a parental figure. Many children have been found alone on the streets or in bus stations, abandoned by their parents without any explanation. The incidence of abuse and alcoholism is very high in Peru , so many of the children here have been victims of abuse from their own family members.

In our home, we seek to demonstrate love and compassion to these children, helping them to heal from the wounds that have brought them here. The difficult nature of each child's past can make gaining their confidence a difficult task. Despite the difficulty of their past experiences, we are committed to improving their social and spiritual well-being. This task, however, cannot be done alone. As a result, the staff of New Hope has provided several ways in which you may be a part of improving these children's lives.
